Today we have two very special guests – Mary Smiley Ford and Carla Smiley Pierson! Mary and Carla are identical twins running a massively successful medical spa they opened just over a year ago.
Given their fitting surname, you’d think they’ve always worked in aesthetics, but that’s not the case…
From Addiction to Aesthetics
Both Mary and Carla have a background in healthcare, and both started their careers in the mainstream medical system in various fields.
Prior to founding Smiley Aesthetics, Mary worked as a CRNA in a hospital. However, after struggling with addiction, she wasn’t allowed to work in anesthesia for a year. And due to the loss of income, she was forced to take a job at a local medical spa, where she gained her first experience within the field of aesthetics.
And although it wasn’t love at first sight – Mary herself says she got into aesthetics out of necessity, not desire – she eventually decided to set up her own mobile Botox business. She pitched the idea to her identical twin sister and RN Carla, and their brand was born.
Breaking Entry Barriers for Nurses
Despite not having any prior business experience, Mary and Carla managed to earn a million in revenue in the first year of operations. Now, they made it their mission to break entry barriers for nurses and other healthcare professionals who want to enter the field of aesthetics.

To enter the field of aesthetics, nurses need specialized training, depending on the state they are in, licenses and certifications, and last but not least, certain business and legal skills. At Smiley Aesthetics, Mary and Carla offer help with all of that!
